In July 2024, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) updated its Standards of Design, aiming to provide developers with increased flexibility and cost-saving opportunities. Key changes include the removal of mandatory patios and balconies, reduced parking space ratios for non-senior developments, allowance for efficiency dwelling units, adjusted elevator requirements for smaller buildings, and new EV infrastructure mandates. These updates apply to projects using MSHDA's Direct Lending Program and select LIHTC developments, reflecting a shift toward more adaptable, market-responsive housing solutions.
